Style Spotlight - Ile de Fleurs Tea Suit

We recently launched our Tea Dress couture collection at the Vintage Bride Wedding Fair in Sydney. The Vintage Bride Wedding Fair is a fantastic show for any and every vintage styled bride wanting to create an authentic look to their wedding day.

The collection was received wonderfully well, and one of the star attractions was our ‘Ile de Fleurs’ tea suit. The 'Ile de Fleurs - Island of Flowers - is a simple and elegant two-piece suit. A hand embroidered cottage garden full of colourful blooms surrounded by a moat of soft, fluid fabric. This tea suit features a high-waisted fully corseted midi-bodice with an attached tea-length, box pleated skirt. The boxy cropped jacket has a 3/4 length sleeve and is cut from a single piece of fabric, giving it a clean and minimalist aesthetic. A style used by one of fashions all-time greats, Cristobal Balenciaga.

This elegant and timeless wedding ensemble lends itself to a more relaxed ceremony, the likes of a town hall or registry office. If you're wanting to make more of a statement, then try wearing a petticoat underneath the skirt. The box pleated design will easily accommodate the extra volume creating a fuller, more formal look better suited to a garden party or larger wedding venue

This classic silhouette has been carefully thought out. The minimalist lines created by the skirt and jacket have been designed and cut so meticulously to ensure all the attention is brought to the cinched midsection. The corset panel is cut high on the waist, finishing a few centimetres under the bust and lower on the hip, emphasising a defined waistline. The cut also allows for the embroidery detail to be viewed from any profile.

The floral details are made from a range of delicately hand-dyed silk petals. Each individual petal has been layered, pleated, gathered and stitched together by hand, creating a textured, three-dimensional garden. Scattered throughout the silk blooms are an array of hand beaded crystal and sequin flowers that add movement and a soft dewy sparkle.

The classic 60’s afternoon suit inspired this look. Generally, a loose or semi-fitted jacket over a straight, flared or pleated skirt. The 60’s day suit was often made in wool and gabardine fabrics. We took the timeless elegance of this style and recreated it using a silk white twill taffeta, a more suitable and glamorous look for a casually styled vintage bride.

The garden embroidery was inspired from a visit to L'Isle sur la Sorgue. A small island village in the mountains of Provence in the south of France. The town is known for its antique shops and picturesque fairytale scenery. The canal that surrounds the old town is full of colour provided by an assortment of hanging flower baskets, garden filled window boxes, and towering trees. A magical place filled with atmosphere and creative wonderment.
