Style Spotlight - Jardin de Luxembourg Tea Length Wedding Gown

A quintessential style that epitomises the couture styling of the mid-late 1950's. With a strong Parisian influence, this tea-length wedding dress was inspired by a 1956 Cristobal Balenciaga evening gown. His version of the gown featured a flared A-line skirt and strapless corseted bodice, an all over textured lace embroidery with a coloured silk fabric flounced hem.

Inspiration gown by Cristobal Balenciaga

Our Jardin de Luxembourg vintage inspired wedding dress features a slimmer silhouette to that of Balenciaga’s creation.  Softening the line of the skirt gives a flattering, feminine shape that accentuates the waist and slims the hip. The bodice also features an asymmetric, hand-embroidered lace and pearl encrusted design. The floral, three-dimensional lace and colour choice of the flounce, was inspired by a recent trip to Paris and an afternoon strolling through the Jardin de Luxembourg.

The Jardin de Luxembourg or in English - the Luxembourg gardens, is a beautiful garden complex in Paris. The gardens were created in 1612 by order of the Queen Mother, Marie de Medici, mother of King Louis XIII. A private sanctuary, designed by love, the garden is now open to the public, however love still rules the day here. Sweethearts walking hand in hand, others snuggling closely together on benches or lounging on the vast lawns.

These gardens have inspired many romances of the past, one of its most famous in Victor Hugo’s novel Les Miserables. It is the place where lead characters Marius and Cosette first meet and their love story begins.

In earlier times, the love in these gardens was carved in stone - literally! To the east of the Palace is the Medici fountain, the fountain features a sculpture of the giant Polyphemus, spying on the lovers Acis and Galatea.

We can’t carve your gown in stone, but we can make the memory of its splendour last your lifetime.
